What does my health insurance cover on holiday?

We will send you a full medical report after each consultation, for free. If you need a separate form completing for your insurance, there is an administration and doctor fee of €100. Check the policy of your insurance company.

Are all your GPs English-speaking doctors?

Yes! Our doctors are either English-native speakers, or speak perfect English! So you can express yourself freely and fluently.

How much does a consultation cost?

An appointment with a GP costs €149. If you're prescribed any medication, we'll write the prescription for free, but you'll need to pay the pharmacy for the medicine.

How long is an appointment with a GP?

Our appointments at TheHolidayDoctor.com are usually 15 to 20 minutes, but this can go up to 30 minutes if you need it.

I forgot my prescription at home, how can I get my medication on holiday?

Make an appointment, and following their assessment, one of our doctors can write you a prescription for any pharmacy in Spain.

What can you treat online?

We can treat most rashes, sore throats, coughs and colds and other conditions that don't need an emergency department.

What can you not treat online?

We can't

  • Treat illnesses that require an emergency department visit

  • Prescribe medication that may be addictive or open to abuse, such as opioids, benzodiazepines or ritalin, under any circumstances

  • Prescribe medication that requires specific monitoring, such as warfarin, except in certain circumstances

What if the doctor says I have an emergency

In the unlikely event that you require emergency care beyond TheHolidayDoctor services, we will refer you to the nearest hospital and assist you with the next steps. Your health and safety are our top priority. In these circumstances we cannot offer a refund, because a medical assessment has been undertaken. But we will send you a report in Spanish.

Does my EHIC card still work in Spain?

Once your EHIC card has expired you can no longer use it for medical care in Spain, or the rest of Europe.

Can I use my GHIC card in Spain?

Your GHIC card will work for some medical care in Europe if it hasn't expired. For more details on GHIC visit the GHIC page on the NHS site

Do you see children or babies?

No. We currently see only adults, aged 18 and over

Do you see visitors from any country? 

Yes, we are licensed to practice in the whole of the European Union, and can see nationals of any country. We are currently only offering prescriptions in Spain, but this may change shortly.

What do I need to bring to my appointment?

Bring your passport, or other ID, and any medication, or repeat prescription lists, with you.

What is the number of medical emergencies in Spain and Europe?

112 is the emergency number for Spain and the rest of Europe.

Where can I find a pharmacy in Spain? 

Pharmacies in Spain are known as "Farmacias". They can often give you very good advice before you visit a doctor. They cannot give you antibiotics or stronger painkillers. You can find your nearest pharmacy in Spain on the Spanish College of Pharmacists website. If they can't help you they can advice you where the nearest hospital is. Most pharmacists in Spain speak some English.

Do you offer refunds?

Refunds, or partial refunds, are only offered if the doctor doesn't show up within 15 minutes, or there is a technical fault, and you are unable to carry out the consultation.
